Here are some things to consider and questions to ask yourself if you are thinking about whether to start therapy.

  • Are you feeling Sad, Angry, Anxious or otherwise Not Yourself? Have you not been doing the stuff you enjoy or find that you are lacking motivation?
  • Have you been hearing from the ones close to you that you do not seem like yourself? Are you having a hard time controlling those strong emotions like anger and sadness? Are you finding it easier to withdraw from your family and friends?
  • Are you using Drugs or Alcohol to cope with Difficult Feelings?
  • Are people around you sharing concerns regarding your drinking or drug use?
  • Is your substance use interfering with your daily life (family, friends, work, school)?
  • Are you thinking about drugs or alcohol throughout the day?
  • Do you have any physical effects from use? (hangover, weight gain/loss, memory issues)?
  • Do you find yourself always quick to Anger?
  • Do you feel as if your anger is controlling your behaviors:
  • Have you (not your) been verbally or physically aggressive towards others?
  • Do you feel like you cannot control your responses to others?
  • Are things that other people seem to let leading you (not your) to anger or rage?
  • Have you experienced Loss through a death, divorce/breakup, move or loss of a job?
  • Are you feeling guilty for “moving on?”
  • Has it been a while since the loss and you are still lacking motivation?
  • Have you endured Trauma whether that be childhood abuse, domestic violence, victim of crime, accident or illness?
  • Have you made time to process these experiences?
  • Are you experiencing ongoing memories/flashbacks or believe that these experiences are impacting your current relationships?
  • Are you having a Hard Time in a Relationship that is important to you?
  • Do you feel like you are not being heard?
  • Are you struggling to communicate your needs or to set boundaries?
  • Is there a lack of trust in your relationship?
